Writing Consistent Blog Posts

How in the world am I going to blog on a regular basis?

That’s a question that many of you may have asked. The answer is that we don’t wait to blog until we are inspired. Your inspiration may come when you are doing something else that is important.

Instead, you create a block of time dedicated to writing a blog post or series of blog posts. Those who blog often and well practice this.

In today’s Tuesday Tip, we’ll discuss three ways to blog consistently.

1. Find a rhythm that works for your real life

I blog once a week. This works for me. However, I normally write up to three to four blog posts at a time. I gather my Bible, open my laptop, put on some great worship music and settle in.

This is my blogging time. It’s on my calendar. It’s my focus.

What works for your real life? Is it an hour a week? Then schedule that.

2. Brainstorm questions your readers are asking

As you establish your blog, your community forms. They come to you because they find education, encouragement, humor, connection or something else that meets a specific need.

Brainstorm questions your readers may be asking. Choose your favorites that would work for a blog post, or a series of blog posts wrapped around one of those questions.

3. Write and Pre-post

WordPress and other blog platforms allow you to pre-post. This allows bloggers to write their blog posts in advance and schedule them for a specific date. This is not a new feature, but it’s a valuable one.

Instead of choosing to “publish immediately,” choose to schedule your blog post for a specific date and time.

TIP: Schedule blog posts to post at the same time on the same day. This helps your readers anticipate each post.

Your Turn

It can be daunting to sit down and figure out what you want to say, how to say and when to say it, however setting up a content calendar can set you up for success. Using a real paper calendar (or even an online one!), plan your posts for the next month!
